Powerful Tools For Caregivers

The MCHD offers a program to help caregivers care for themselves and their loved ones.
Sarah Cares for Her Father
When Sarah’s father, Jim, was diagnosed with cancer, she didn’t think twice about stepping in as his primary caregiver. At first, it was manageable. She took Jim to his medical appointments, helped with groceries, and ensured he took his medications. Today, as his condition progresses, Sarah finds herself overwhelmed.
The stress of balancing her part-time job, family, and her father’s increasing needs leaves her exhausted. She feels guilty for feeling frustrated, yet she doesn’t know how or where to ask for help.
The MCHD Offers a Support Program
The Moultrie County Health Department (MCHD) is pleased to sponsor a Powerful Tools for Caregivers program. It is offered at the Arthur Public Library beginning February 19, 2025. This six-week program will be offered every Wednesday from February 19 to March 26, 2025, starting at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 12:00 p.m.
This program has been popular with Moultrie County caregivers in the past. It’s an education program that shares “tools” to help family caregivers cope with their responsibilities and relationships.
There is no cost to this program. It's funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Please register by calling the MCHD before February 17, 2025, at (217) 728-4114.
Who are the Caregivers?
A caregiver provides support for a family member struggling with medical conditions, including chronic diseases, cognitive disorders, and injuries.
Caregivers help individuals meet their daily needs. These needs can include bathing, dressing, preparing meals, transportation, and communicating with medical staff.
How Caregivers Can Benefit
Like millions of others, Sarah has discovered that caregiving can be physically, emotionally, and financially stressful. This program encourages caregivers to examine their lives. They’ll learn tools to help them deal with daily stressors and improve their comfort and well-being in this vital role.
Perhaps the most essential lesson from this program is that caregivers are not alone. This is not a support group. However, it offers a highly supportive and informative environment for family caregivers.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers is available to those who serve as primary caregivers. Again, there is no cost to this program. Please register by calling the MCHD before February 17, 2025, at (217) 728-4114.
